Anyone who has tried to book a ‘last minute’ spot at one of the many  camp sites dotted around the British Isles only to receive a ‘Sorry No Vacancies’ will testify that camping is now more popular than it has ever been.

Why?

Well, cost obviously plays a big part in why so many people are turning their backs on congested airport terminals but there are many other reasons why camping is become more resurgent in the past few years;

  • Generally speaking unless you decide to venture abroad with your camping gear, you can be at your destination with your tent pitched in a few hours – no stressful queues at passport control!
  • The freedom you are offered by being able to be in a different place on a different site each and every day of your holiday – usually there are no minimum stays on camp sites so you can plan a tour of an entire area or county.
  • Not only has the ‘image’ of camping improved, so have the tents and the campsites – today’s tents are made from high quality weather resistant materials that easily cope with the elements keeping the tent occupants dry and warm!
  • The tents of today also have seperate bedrooms and an area to cook as well as a ‘living’ area and the cost to buy a ‘family’ tent that will sleep 5 or 6 people is often less than flights to the Mediterranean for the same amount of people!
  • A British campsite in 2011 offers hot showers, daily & evening entertainment, swimming pools and shops making camping a holiday option for everyone!
